  • Redesigned file chunking and task scheduling in the Hyperdrive distributed worker for S3 workloads of millions of files, cutting overall processing time by 87%
  • Built a distributed Elasticsearch ingestion worker that consumes findings from multiple streams, groups and batches records by finding type, and handles ingestion end to end, returning reliable results within seconds under production load
  • Designed graceful cancellation for long-running workflows spanning Kubernetes workers and AWS Lambdas, keeping state consistent and termination safe across every cancellation path
  • Extended the Hyperdrive State Tracker to aggregate live execution metrics from thousands of Kubernetes workers and Lambdas via Prometheus, calculating statistics and persisting them in PostgreSQL

GitHub was down for 7h 47m. The retry storm was a separate failure.

An autoscaler watched the wrong resource, so the sidecar saturated unnoticed. Then a client retry bug turned recovery into a second outage that lasted four and a half hours longer than the first.
